Electric Scooters are legal - within the relevant regulations

While Senate Bill 159 successfully established the foundation, Georgia now operates under a unified definition of "Micromobility Devices." These are legally distinguished from "Mopeds" and "EPAMDs" creating a clear regulatory structure for devices like the Bo Model M.

License requirements:

The Permit Rule: Unlike most states, Georgia law (OCGA § 40-5-24) generally requires that anyone operating a motorized vehicle on public roads possess a valid driver’s license, instructional permit, or limited permit.

You don't need a specific motorcycle endorsement for an e-scooter, but you do need an appropriate driving permit of some sort.

Age: The minimum age for operation is 15, aligning with the state’s learner’s permit age.

Performance and Weight Limits

Weight: Your device must weigh under 100 lbs. Otherwise it will exceed the micromobility category and be registered as a motorcycle)

Speed: Maximum motor-assisted top speed of 20 mph

Permitted Riding Areas (The "Savannah/Atlanta" Split)

Roadways: You are permitted to ride on any street with a speed limit of 35 mph or less. You must stay as far to the right as practicable.

Sidewalks: Riding on sidewalks is strictly prohibited in Atlanta and most major Georgia municipalities.
You must use bike lanes or the roadway.

The Savannah Lockdown: Savannah has some of the nation’s strictest bans on shared scooters (rental companies like Veo and Lime). In the historic district, rentals are banned entirely.
However, privately-owned scooters are permitted on streets, so this does not affect our riders on Bo Model M

Night Riding and Safety

Lighting: Georgia law requires a white front lamp and a red rear light visible from at least 300 feet.

Helmets: Mandatory for all riders under 16 years of age.

Private Scooter Benefit: The Curfew Advantage

In 2025/2026, Atlanta maintained a 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM "No-Ride" curfew for rental scooters (Veo / Lime) to curb late-night chaos.

Personal scooters like the  Bo Model M  are exempt from this curfew.

This means while the rest of the city is forced into Ubers or cars, the Bo rider can glide home.

The Bo Model-M: Since the electric scooter is legal in Georgia, it is worth investing in a vehicle that is going to bring you real pleasure every time you use it.

To that end, Bo is the only electric scooter designed and engineered by a team of real car guys. Where the rest of the scooter industry took children's toys and attempted to ruggedise them, we started with a blank sheet of paper to develop the best vehicle in the world for your local journeys.

Of course, while Bo clearly has a unique design you can only really feel that quality when you ride it for yourself. That is why the Bo Model-M comes with an extraordinary 60 day return policy and have a customer response team full of the engineers who made it. When you contact Bo, you're going straight to the source.
